Basingstoke Test Center
The test center in Basingstoke is due to be closed, but we do not know when. Nationally the motorcycle test was due to change in September 2008. The changes meant that the DSA had to build larger test centers around the country so that some of the testing could be done off road. The completion of these new test centers was not fulfilled by the due date, so the introduction of the new motorcylce test has been postponed to March 2009
The nearest new test center is in Farnborough (another should have been built in Newbury, but it has not materialised), so all motorcycle tests normally conducted in Basingstoke were to move there. This would reduce the number of tests being conducted in Basingstoke and that is why the DSA declared that the Basingstoke test center would close.
However, it now seems that the motorcycle test will be conducted in two parts, so there is the possibility that part will remain in Basingstoke and the test center may not close after all - but who knows? At the moment it seems no-one knows quite what is going to happen.
